Mathias did his bachelor and master degree in biotechnology at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. He then went on to do his master’s thesis in structural biology at New York University Abu Dhabi, and stayed there as a research assistant for a year. He gained skills in NMR spectroscopy and biophysical methods, applying those to study amyloid protein interactors. Mathias then joined the Schur group where he aims to use cryo-EM/ET, NMR spectroscopy, and biophysical methods to understand the structural diversity of retroviral capsid assemblies.
